Square Feet Calculation Charts

Before using the calculation charts to determine how much mulch, sod grass, or how many plants you might need to fill a given area you will need to measure and determine the total square footage of the area to be covered or planted.

Determining Total Square Footage of a Square or Rectangular Area

Simply multiply the length of the area by the width of the area. For example, if the length of an area is 100', and the width of the area is 50', the equation would look like this:

100' x 50' = 5,000 Total Square Feet

To determine the square footage of a circular area.

Start by multiplying the length of the radius of the circle by itself. The radius of a circle is the distance from the center of the circle to the outside edge of the circle. For example, if the diameter of a circle is 20' across, the radius of a circle is 10'.

After multiplying the radius of a circle by itself, multiply that total figure by 3.14. For example, if you determine that the radius of a circle is 10' the equation would look like this:

10' x 10' = 100'.... then 100' x 3.14 = 314 total square feet
