Bald Cypress is a very versatile tree that will grow in a wide range of soil types and will tolerate both wet and dry soils. When planted in wet soils or standing water the bald cypress can reach heights of 70 feet or more. When planted in dry soils, the height may be 30 to 40 feet. This tree will grow in anything from full sun to part shade.

Bald Cypress makes a fine specimen or shade tree in the landscape. Exceptionally versatile, bald cypress thrives in wet or boggy soils, but will also thrive in normal, even dry soils. The feathery, pale green, needle-like foliage is attractive throughout the season, turning to reddish-orange in Fall. Useful in the landscape planted as a specimen, or in groups. Grows very fast to provide shade. In dry soils the habit is more dense, growing 30 to 50' tall by 20 to 30' wide. In wet soils can reach 100' tall and 40' or more in width. I've found this to be one exceptionally durable native tree.

Bald Cypress requires no pruning. Lower limbs can be removed if desired.

When established, Bald Cypress doesn't really require much fertilization. When young, you could broadcast a well-balanced shrub and tree fertilizer in spring, just when new growth begins to emerge.

The Bald Cypress I have growing in my landscape for over 5 years has had no pest or disease problems. It just grows like mad....probably about 3 feet a year or so.
