Hosui are very round, medium to large, and combining the flavor and sweetness of Pears with the crunchiness of crisp Apples. Their mild flavor is sweet and slightly tart. Asian pear cultivars are partially self-fruitful but better crops are set where two or more cultivars are planted together. This has been found to be especially true in the case of the Hosui variety. Some recommended pollenizers that can provide good results are Shinko, Chojuro, Bartlett, or 20th Century Pear.
