Stella De Oro daylily has about the longest bloom season of any daylily I know of, repeat blooming for up to 5 months. There isn't much maintenance required with this daylily, though removing scapes after flowering and feeding can enhance repeat bloom.

I feed daylilies in spring with an organic flower food, just after new growth has emerged from dormancy. The I'll feed them again after having cleaned them after after a bloom cycle. By "cleaning up" I mean removing any discolored leaves and flower scapes. The "scape" is the stem that the buds and flowers are produced on.

I've never seen any serious problem with disease or insects on Stella De Oro daylily. Unlike some other daylily varieties, Stella De Oro has demonstrated a strong resistance to rust.

Plant daylilies in sites that provide well-drained soil and plenty of sun. Stella De Oro is a strong growing, rust-resistant daylily that repeat blooms for up to 5 months. It is a lower-growing daylily (15-18 inches tall) that is useful planted as a border along walkways or paths, in mass as a groundcover on slopes or embankments, or in small to large groups in landscape beds or perennial gardens.

To plant, dig a hole no deeper and at least two times the width of the root ball and fill it with water. If the hole drains within a few hours, you have good drainage. If the water is still standing 6 hours later, improve the drainage in your bed, perhaps by establishing a raised bed.

Turn and break up the soil removed from the planting hole. If the native soil is dense, compacted or heavy clay, mix in a good organic compost or soil amendment at a 50/50 ratio with the soil removed from the planting hole.

Remove your plant from its container and carefully but firmly loosen the root ball. Set the plant into the hole you've prepared, making sure the top of the root ball is slightly above the soil level.

Pull your backfill soil mixture around the root ball in the hole, tamping as you go to remove air pockets.

Water thoroughly and cover with a one to two-inch layer of mulch.
