Kudzu In Member Gardens

I, and just about everybody else in the southeast U.S., consider kudzu to be an invasive weed, which it is when left to grow wild and out of control. However, this being said, other countries grow it as a vegetable plant for it's leaves and roots. It also makes a good cover crop for farmers, adding nitrogen when turned into the soil.

There is no doubt about the invasiveness of this plant. It is absolutely devastating the amount of ecological damage this one plant has caused in the southern United States! I would be extremely cautious of planting it anywhere except its native range (basically I would NOT plant it at all). Many many many invasive plants are not invasvie right away. There is usually a lag period before it becomes invasive. By then, it's often too late.
