Lantana 'Sonset' is a hardy lantana that just may be the hardiest (to Zone 7). In our trial gardens, it emerges from dormancy a month ahead of other hardy lantana. Butterflies and hummingbirds will flock to the amazing, multicolor flower clusters that provide a kaleidiscope of ever-changing colors throughout the day. Flowers start off the day yellow, then turn to orange changing to red, then magenta and purple. You will even find tiny petals with more than one color! Easy to grow in most any well-drained soil and plenty of sunshine. Exceptionally heat and drought tolerant once quickly established.

Sonset Lantana Feeding Instructions

Feed in Spring and then on an as needed basis through late Summer. We generally recommend a slow-release granular flower food, higher in the middle number: this is phospherous, which helps to promote strong root systems, strong stems and plenty of flowers. Alternatively, you may use a natural or organic, non-burning plant food. Refer to product label for application rates and instruction.

Pruning Instructions For Perennial Lantana

First off, never prune your perennial lantana in the Fall or Winter as this will insure death of the plant. Prune lantana only in Spring when new growth begins to emerge. Cut away all dead branches to a point just above where new growth is emerging. Lantana can also be sheared during early to mid-Summer to encourage new budding and flowers.

This plant typically encounters very few pest or disease problems. If a pest or disease problem is identified, treat with an insecticide product, preferably one containing "Neem oil". Neem oil is a safe, triple-action product that can be used to control insects, mites and diseases. If your plant appears seriously stressed or diseased, consult with your local nurseryman, arborist, professional landscaper or local extension agent.
