This evergreen Spring-flowering shrub requires little or no pruning. However, light pruning to may be necessary to maintain a desired shape, or to remove stray or broken branches and spent blooms. Light pruning should be done just after the shrub has finished blooming i Spring. Hard pruning, to reduce the size of the shrub, should be performed in late Winter; before new foliage has emerged. Pruning with sharp hand pruners is recommended. Pruning with electric or gas-powered hedge trimmers can cause unsightly scarring of leaves.
