Colorful Shrubs For Hardiness Zone 7 In Full Sun That Grow To Three Feet?

Filed Under: Shrubs · Keywords: Colorful, Shrubs, Three Feet, Tall, Three Feet, Wide, Dry Soil, Full Sun · 397 Views
Hello,

I am looking to plant a few bushes/shrubs in my backyard in MD. My yard gets full sun for atleast 6 hours a day and the location is on a slight incline which leaves the soil very dry for the most part. I am looking for something that grows about 3 feet by 3 feet. Something with color would be great...or even something with flowers. These bushes would be placed in front of a new crape myrtle. Any suggestions?

Thanks Sean

Answer #1 · Brooks Wilson's Answer · Hi Sean,

Living in Maryland you are in Hardiness Zone 7A or 7B.

Here's some shrubs that will work:

- Dwarf Butterfly Bush. There are many Butterfly Bush that grow to 3-4 feet. Type Butterfly Bush in the search bar at the top of the page. All of the Butterfly Bush will appear.

- Purple Diamond Loropetalum. Dark purple foliage with dark pink blooms. Easily maintainable at 3-4 feet.

- Dwarf Abelia. Great color plant. Many to choose from. Most grow 2-4 feet. Type Abelia in the search bar.

- Drift Roses. Several colors to choose from. Grows 2-3 feet. Just type in 'Drift Rose' in the search bar.

The selections in the above short list are the most colorful plants, and most well performing plants, that I can think of that fit your requirements.

You can also do an advanced plant search here on Gardenality. Go to this link www.gardenality.com/Plants/ and then look at #2. Click on 'Click here to build your search'. Then choose each attribute by clicking on the various attribute tabs. As you make selections the plants that will work pop up instantly.. The more attributes that you choose, the search results will be narrowed.

Hope this helps you out.
