Answer #1 · Chason Arthur's Answer · Almost any type of container can be used to grow tomatoes and other vegetables provided there is adequate drainage. If there are no drainage holes in the bottom of the container you will have to drill some. It's also a good idea to put some large garvel or broken clay pot chips inside the container and around the holes so they won't become clogged. My favorite type of container is whiskey barrels but they're hard to find these days. You can probably find look-a-like's at your local nursery and garden center. Clay pots work well too. Just make sure that your container is at least five gallons in size to give your plant(s) room to grow. If you'll be growing beans or other climbing vegetable plants think about using a trellis in the pot for support or set the pot near a fence or other structure that will provide climbing space and support. Use a tomato cage or support for tomatoes.)
