Answer #1 · Gardenality.com's Answer · Hi Angie- Did you mean to ask if the Tea Olive comes in a "dwarf" size tree? Is so, and you are referring to the fragrant varieties of Tea Olive (Osmanthis fragrans), I'm not aware of any dwarf varieties. The white, orange and yellow flowering ones all grow to over 10 feet.

Tea Olive will handle any amount of sun you give them. They'll tolerate a little bit of shade. Too much shade and the foliage will be less dense. I like them best as a small evergreen tree however they work great as a large shrub as well. I have one growing on each outside corner of my home. After about 7 or 8 years they have grown to about 9 or 10 feet in height and about 6 feet or so wide. The only pruning Ive ever done was to remove lower branches to form the tree.

I've also got a couple Goshiki Osmanthus (Osmanthus heterophyllus) in my landscape. These are much smaller growing in size. I've heard some say that they produce fragrant flowers but Ive never noticed this on mine. Maybe they're fragrant but not nearly as much so as the Osmanthus fragrans varieties.

Let us know if you need any more details or have any other questions.
