Hello Chuck...the great state of Connecticut actually has 4 different plant hardiness/climate sub-zones, depending on what part of the state you live in or for which you are inquiring. What is the city/town, or better yet, the zip code of the area where you would like to pinpoint this information?

Answer #2 · Charles Dawson's Answer · Well Chuck, good thing that it is Summer and not Winter, or else you and many of the other plants native and/or known to be "hardy" in your apparent home in USDA Hardiness Zone 8a (at least based on your Gardenality profile), might have frozen to death if you were outside somewhere in Plainville waiting on the answer to your question...

Anyway, in a state with the vast majority of its real estate in USDA Zone 6 (a & b), Plainville, CT, is actually designated by the USDA as being in Zone 5b - which is the "lowest" (i.e. coldest) of the four (4) designated USDA Hardiness Zones found within the state (5b,6a,6b,7a). You probably know, but geographically speaking, that likely places Plainville somewhere in the proximity of the NW corner of the state?? Areas designated by he USDA to be in Zone 5b have, over the last ~ 30 years, experienced "Average Extreme Low Temps" between minus -10F and minus -15F. FYI, the coastal areas of CT are designated to be in Zone 7a, and these areas come in between a toasty 0F and 5F for their Average Extreme Low Temps...

Hope this information helps, Chuck. And if nothing else, I bet it's safe to say you now know more about the Average Extreme Low Temps in Connecticut than 99.9% of the planet's population...stay warm...)
