Maple Tree's Answer · Hi Josh-I believe you are right. There are numerous species of the croton, but what I found as many call Texas Croton sure looks like your pictures. I found different species that look close, but knowing your location may help to pinpoint the species you have. Evidently the leaves have an aromatic smell when the leaves are crushed. The leaves are darker on the bottom than the top. The flowers are spiked as in your pictures and the fruit capsule is divided into three segments supporting three individual seeds. I uploaded a few pictures that help I believe to support your findings.
