Maple Tree's Answer · Hi DW-Your location will determine the time you will harvest your Canary melons also called Twice As Nice Melon, Spanish Melon, and the San Juan canary melons. This melon should be planted after any last expected frost. After blooms you will see small melons start to develop. Their growing season is normally 80 to 90 days till harvesting. Most harvesting of this melon in the U.S. is done in July. Melons need to ripen fully on the vine as they do not ripen well after they are harvested. Melons develop a wonderful fragrance when they are ready to pick. Canary melons should be firm, smooth to the touch, and have bright yellow color with no hint of green. The fruit should slip easily from the vine and the blossom end should feel soft to the touch. I noted below the link to the plant file for the Canary Melon. Just click on the link to go directly to the plant file. There you will find the plants characteristics and information on planting, fertilization, and harvesting of this melon.
