I have 2 dogs, one being a Great Dane who likes to eat leaves from trees/shrubs in the yard. I was given a Kaleidoscope Abelia today and need to know if this will be toxic to my Dane if she eats the leaves.

Answer #2 · Gardenality.com's Answer · I have two chihuahuas and they both have chewed on every plant in my yard at one time or another, including Abelia. I don't think there's anything to worry about. As John said, non of the toxic plant databases list abelia as a toxic plant.

Answer #1 · Maple Tree's Answer · Hi DW-The Abelia grandiflora 'Kaleidoscope' is not listed as being toxic to dogs. I checked the Abelia grandiflora with The Humane Society of the United States, Aspca, and other state toxic plant databases and found nothing regarding this plant being toxic to dogs. Of course eating enough of any plant could upset their stomach. Many plants my dogs have munched on through the years were hard for them to digest and ended up upseting their stomach but never did any harm not being toxic to animals. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, the toxicity of the Glossy Abelia (Abelia ×grandiflora) plant is: None.
