Answer #1 · Maple Tree's Answer · Hi Rafael-If you applied the beneficial nematodes a month ago and the temperatures have been fairly warm (above 45 degrees F) they most likely have done some good. If you feel you need another application it is best to wait now until spring. During the cooler winter temperatures most insects are dormant and will do very little or no damage during this time. The nematodes that are still living, most likely very few, will be dormant if not dead also and will do very little before the soil temperatures rise in spring. The benefical nematodes are best applied in the spring once temperatures warm. A second application 7 to 10 days later works well as this staggers the life cycles of the nematodes to insure complete coverage. If you know you have a severe insect infestation additional applications may be needed every 10 days until the problem has been taken care of. Always purchase your nematodes from a reputable supplier as you want to make sure all are alive and well. Be sure to store them properly in a refrigerator (do not freeze) and apply carefully as per the packaged instructions.

Hopefully this has helped.

John)

You're very welcome. I also thought I would use the beneficial nematodes in several of my larger pots this coming spring.

Answer #2 · Rafael Flores's Answer · John, I went back and re-read your answer and you got me to thinking on the part about a reputable supplier. I ordered from Zone.com Gardening on Amazon. How does one arrive at how reputable the company is? Is there some online critique about these suppliers. I ordered my online and never thought about these critters being alive when they arrived. It was packed pretty good with ice packs though.)

Rafael-I normally will look for reviews from those that have purchased the product from this supplier. I believe I found the site and would think this supplier is reputable. They are concerned about getting the product shipped immediately because of their life span. They also seem to package well keeping the nematodes cool which many suppliers don't do. I would think their product is fine after seeing their care in shipping time and packaging. The product they are selling most likely comes directly from the nematode supplier.
