Hi Jeanne-Where you able to get a picture of the flower? You mentioned in your message the flower was white. So far the only weed I have come up with that supposedly has a variety with a white flower and rounded teeth on the margin is a henbit. I will wait for your next pictures to search further. I'm assuming this weed is a cool weather weed and that it is growing throughout you garden at this time of year.

Answer #2 · Gardenality.com's Answer · Hi Jeanne - John might be right about this weed possibly being bristly mallow. It might be young Henbit. Not really sure? If it produces purple flowers, it's most likely henbit. Either way, there's a few methods to control it. You either have to pull it by hand, spray with a glyphosate-based weed killer, or try weed preventers. But now that the plants have sprouted you'll need to destroy them before they go to seed. I uploaded a few pics of the henbit...one of a fully mature plant, a young plant, and the flower. Hope this is helpful.

Answer #1 · Maple Tree's Answer · Hi Jeanne-I believe this weed is a type of mallow. Possibly bristly mallow (Modiola caroliniana). There are several species of mallow but the picture you have seems to match this weeds identification. Have you seen any flowers on this plant and if so what color? Are there any hairs on the leaves which may give a 'bristly' feel to the leaves? What location are you living in? Your city and state may help to identify this weed also. Once a mallow plant becomes mature it is hard to control because of its erratic germination pattern. The best way to control this weed is to dig up the weed by hand while the plants are still young as the mature deep tap root is hard to remove. Products containing 2,4-D will provide limited control when applied to young plants. Products such as Round Up and Killzall weed and grass killer will kill this weed but care needs to be taken that no other plants near by come in contact with these types of products as they too will be killed. You can look at this plant using google images to see several pictures of the mallow plants. Let me know if this looks like the weeds you are seeing.
