Question About Macho Fern

I have read so many contrasting views on the Macho fern, I live in southwest Florida. 33909. I want to use ferns in the front of my house which gets the morning sun, and afternoon shade, will the Macho fern survive?

Answer #1 · Brent Wilson's Answer · Sounds like you've got the perfect spot for a Macho fern. Though they tolerate full sun, Macho fern will appreciate shade in the afternoon. You're in zone 9b and Macho fern is listed to 9a, so you should be fine. That being said, a freak cold blast or hard freeze could damage or kill the plants. I had a place just north of you on Anna Maria Island for a few years and can remember a winter where it got down to 26 degrees F. This low temperature would severely damage or kill Macho Fern...and a host of other tropicals as well. Many Sago Palms were killed that year on the island.
