Coneflower - Somthing Eating On Blooms

Filed Under: Insects, Diseases and Fungus · Keywords: Coneflower, blooms, · 202 Views
It appears there is something munching on the peddles of the blooms on this one Tiki Torch Coneflower. I have several Coneflowers and it appears this is the only one getting nibbled on. It's on almost every bloom. Any ideas?

Sorry, not sure how to attach a pic.

Rabbits love coneflowers. They are probably getting to them early evening or early morning. I had a woodchuck eating my potato vines (decimating them), I didn't spot him for weeks. You won't know for sure unless you spot the culprit (look around for tracks or poop) but rabbits do like those tasty coneflowers. You can get a spray from your friend local nursery or big-box (HD/LOWES) store, there are organic cayenne pepper mixes you can make yourself, just ask your good friend google.

It's odd though, this is the only plant being attacked. My other coneflower plants are fine. Just strange!

Our woodchuck just worked the one mound of potato vines, once he chomped that down he moved on to the next... then the next...

So how do you attach an image?

I just planted a Tiki Torch Echinacea in my yard a few weeks ago. Chris is right, rabbits will eat the petals on coneflowers. Saw one eating mine just a few nights ago. The rabbit is eating my yarrow as well. If it's not rabbits, I'd be careful about spraying echinacea with an insecticide. Might kill butterflies and bees.
