Japanese Maple

w just moved into our new house and have a Japanese maple in our front yard, we live in charlotte, nc. I would say it gets a fair amount of sun, nad the people before us did some trimming to it, not very good, I might add and there was a huge bare spot right in the middle of the tree, it was like they cut the height of the tree, but not around the outside. Now that spring is here and the temperatures are turning there is a lot of new growth in the trimmed area, but it is all green, yet the rest of the tree is the beautiful crimson color. the green makes the tree look somewhat unappealing, almost like weeds are coming up from it, but it is for sure new tree growth. will this always be green now as a result of how they trimmed it?? or does new growth come out green then change to crimson??
