William Mills's Answer · I had a mature abelia and I could prune just about anytime of the year, granted in some great soil and fertilized. They eventually got very large for their space and suffered. I replanted a very young kaleidoscope and trimmed back a small bit before summer last year to shape and they let me know about it. I waited until late fall and trimmed them back quite a bit and they are doing great, filling out and growing in height. I'd send along a picture or two but can never remember how to do so. Zone 7)
