Brent Wilson's Answer · Without seeing a picture of how far back you actually cut your crape myrtle, it's hard to say if this is the cause for the tree not blooming. If you cut the tree back by 1/3 its entire size, this could have been too far? You don't want to prune beyond the the forks from the previous year. Instead you want to remove anywhere from 1/3 to 2/3 the length of just last years growth/branches, NEVER pruning beneath where these branches meet another branch. Not sure if you've seen this article on pruning crape myrtle but it may help you to determine if you cut the tree back to far:
www.gardenality.com/Articles/344/How-To-Info/Pruning/How-To-Prune-A-Crape-Myrtle/default.htmlThat being said, I've seen crape myrtles that were cut back way too far and they still produced blooms, just not as many as they would had they been pruned properly. Is your tree in more sun or more shade? Shade can cause crape myrtle to not bloom. If you have any other questions let me know.)
