When & How To Prune A Crape Myrtle (Crepe Myrtle)

I have a crepe myrtle that has grown way too tall and need to know when the best time of year is to cut them back.. also, how do you trim them?

Answer #1 · Gardenality.com's Answer · The best time to do major pruning on the canopy of a crape myrtle would be in very late winter or very early spring...right before or just after the new growth emerges. Suckers that emerge from the base of the tree can be removed any time of year. A small branch here or there can be pruned any time of year.
