What Is A Good Replacement For Oleander Shrub?

Filed Under: Trees, Shrubs · Keywords: Good, Replacement, For, Oleander, Shrub · 152 Views
Our townhome association is considering total removal of Oleanders we presently have due to Witches Broom Disease. We are exploring different avenues for replacement, ie, privacy fence but also different shrubs that are disease resistant, attractive borders, and most important....FAST GROWING. We abut a very busy, noisy street and want tall, thick, fast growth upon the removal of the Oleanders.

Any recommendations?

Answer #1 · Brooks Wilson's Answer · Hi Chris,

I see you are listed as living in USDA Zone 8A. I'm assuming you actually live south of Zone 8A. Oleander shrubs don't survive in 8A. If you can let me know exactly where you live I'll be able to give you some good suggestions as to what would be a good replacement for the Oleander. There is a advanced search here on Gardenality that you can use as well. You can select your Zone, and the attributes you are looking for in a plant, and the Gardenality Search program will give you results, automatically. Click on the Plants tab at the top of this page and look for Step 2- Build Your Search. This can be very helpful when trying to find plants that will work in certain zones and certain applications.

Answer #2 · Chris Mercier's Answer · Thanks for answering so quickly. Not sure about the zones? We live in Satellite Beach, FL which is on the east coast of Florida, half way between Jacksonville and Miami. As to the zone? Don't know.....)
