Why Doesn't One Of My Holly Trees Produce Berries?

Hi, I have two holly tree, 8 ' side by side. One produces the red berries the other does not. Why is this and is there anything I can do to help it produce the berries.

Not sure the variety of holly you have but, since they're side-by-side, I'm assuming they are both the same variety. If so, and if you are pruning them identically and at the same time, the most probable cause is that one of the plants is a female and the other a male. Hollies are dioecious, meaning that they need male and female plants in order to produce seeds/berries. Only female holly bushes will have the red berries. Thing is, there has to be a male holly nearby in order to pollinate the female so she'll produce berries.

The only other thing I can think of that causes hollies not to produce berries would be pruning after the plant flowers in spring.
