Answer #1 · Brooks Wilson's Answer · Hi Anne,

Yes, you can shape. By trimming the Coreopsis new growth will come out below each cut that is made. This will create a denser plant with more blooms. Coreopsis blooms on new growth.

Is your Coreopsis in full sun? I have several Coreopsis in full sun and they never really need much pruning. Sometimes later in the season they will get a little overgrown looking and I'll snip them back a little. More shade will cause them to get taller and thin looking.

Hope this helps you.

Answer #2 · Brent Wilson's Answer · When any of my threadleaf coreopsis, which includes Zagreb, have finished blooming I shear them lightly. If you look closely at the plant after it has finished a bloom cycle you can see the next round of small flower buds. Make sure not to shear beyond these buds. If you don't see any small buds you can shear the plant back a little further and this should encourage new growth and more flowers.)
